BUSINESS OF THE DAY: Spectacular Sales

TODAY'S AGENDA

Walk around the mall or a shopping center as a family.  Look exclusively for signs (of various shapes and sizes) with the word(s) “Sale”.

THE PRESENTATION SLIDE WITH TODAY'S OBJECTIVES: Why You're Doing This

  • Teach your child a new vocabulary word, and/or a new context (literally) for a word they might know.
  • Help them understand a “sale” as a business strategy to move product when stores are “sitting heavy” on certain things.

THE FAMILY CONFERENCE CALL: Questions to Talk About Together

  • What does the word “sale” mean? (Parents, “sale” simply means you can get something for a cheaper price.)
  • Why do stores have sales?
  • How do you know a store is hosting a “sale” on something?
  • Why is it a good idea to look for sales?
  • When do you notice there are a lot of sales? What’s a time of the year when there are a lot of sales? Why?
  • How does each store show that they’re hosting a sale?

STOCK TIP

Parents, you can make this really fun and engaging by encouraging your child to find any stores that say sale. Try going into one store and ask what the regular price is and what the sale price is. You may be able to even find something you need that is on sale. If so, engage your child in that decision-making process.
