BUSINESS OF THE DAY: Saving the Day, Saving Energy
TODAY'S AGENDA
Sit down as a family “team” and talk about what your family can do to save money in the home.
THE PRESENTATION SLIDE WITH TODAY'S OBJECTIVES: Why You're Doing This
- Educate the family about expenses, how the money spends money, and how bills are paid.
- Heighten your child’s awareness that everything (turning on the lights, using water, turning on the air conditioning in the summer) costs money.
THE FAMILY CONFERENCE CALL: Questions to Talk About Together
- What’s a bill? How do we pay a bill, and how often do we pay a bill?
- What do you think is the most expensive bill our family pays?
- Why and how do we save money by turning off the lights, or keeping the door closed to keep heat/cool air in?
- What else can the family do to try to save money?
STOCK TIP
Parents, consider putting your child in charge of a specific task to contribute and help save the family money. Example: Enlist a “Lights Off Manager” or a “Manager of Closed Doors”. This provides an opportunity for your child to get involved on a daily basis, increasing his or her awareness of the concept.
