BUSINESS OF THE DAY: Let’s Get Organized!

TODAY'S AGENDA

Find a drawer, a shelf or a bin that is not organized. Work together with your child to organize it.

THE PRESENTATION SLIDE WITH TODAY'S OBJECTIVES: Why You're Doing This

  • Teach your child the value of organization and orderliness, and how it effects the way you do “business” around and for the home and family.
  • Help your child understand the benefits of organizing.
  • Expose your child to different ways of organizing - by type, color, size, etc.

THE FAMILY CONFERENCE CALL: Questions to Talk About Together

  • How can we better organize or sort the items on or in this shelf, drawer, or bin?
  • How do we use this shelf, drawer, or bin, and, given that, what makes the most sense as to how we should choose to organize it for the home and family?
  • Once the area is organized, what are some of the benefits of being organized and orderly?
  • What will we do better, faster, or more efficiently now that this space is better organized?
  • How should we communicate our organization to the rest of the family?

STOCK TIP

Parents, consider doing one drawer together, then - if you’re feeling brave - let your child organize a different area according to how he thinks is best. Then, ask him to explain his thought process as to how and why he organized it in a specific way.
